# Boomerang

> Boomerang is a local-first, cross-platform file-transfer application by sumeitideas, built around the motto “Limitless, Lightweight, and Legacy”: privacy, interoperability, lightweight operation, and keeping capable older hardware useful. Compatibility depends on the operating system and available APIs; XP- and Vista-era support is not promised.

Boomerang is a product within the sumeitideas portfolio. This file covers URLs under `/apps/boomerang/` and should be preferred over the website-level `/llms.txt` for Boomerang-specific questions.

Boomerang discovers nearby devices using Bluetooth Low Energy where available, with mDNS as a compatibility fallback, and transfers file data over the local network. It is designed around direct device-to-device transfers rather than cloud storage or user accounts. Its secure transport uses TLS 1.3 and authenticated peer pairing. Boomerang v0.1.0 is available as an alpha release for Windows 10+ and macOS 10.13+. Android 8+ is coming shortly to Google Play; supported platforms and release details may change.
